Global Cities Blog is a collaborative effort tracing the historical and cultural changes and tendencies in the urban context, from the economic rise of the Metropolis during the age of industrialization, to its “dissolution” as a physical entity brought by postmodernism, to its current state as a global entity. This blog will examine the relation of creative forces and industries to the historical processes of modernization, urbanization, technological advancements and the rise of corporate structures and mass media, all of which define the city as an object of theoretical speculations, aesthetic inspiration, and utopian visions of the future.
